Residents of Wilmslow is a local political and community group that was established in 2011 in response to growing concerns over widespread greenbelt development in the town. Originally formed as a grassroots campaign group, its founding members were motivated by a strong desire to protect Wilmslow’s character and environment, particularly in the face of unchecked development.

As frustrations mounted over Wilmslow being routinely overlooked and underfunded by wider authorities, the group recognised that meaningful change could only be achieved from within. This realisation led Residents of Wilmslow to evolve from an advocacy organisation into an electoral force, with members standing for and being elected to local councils.

The mission continues to focus on ensuring Wilmslow’s voice is heard, defending the town’s unique environment, and securing fair investment and services for the local community.

We work to protect green spaces and local infrastructure, defend the character of the town, and promote Wilmslow as a clean, safe and successful place to live.

We give residents an independent voice on planning, development and local decision-making, and we scrutinise Cheshire East Local Plans to ensure Wilmslow’s interests come first.

We engage with councils and decision-makers, campaign on local issues, and work alongside residents, volunteers and other community groups.

Membership is open, inclusive and volunteer-led.
We are independent of national political parties and focused solely on what’s best for Wilmslow.
