Residents of Wilmslow (RoW) is pleased to report that further restoration work has now begun on the historic bog on Lindow Moss.
This progress is thanks in large part to the determination, patience and hard work of Wilmslow’s voluntary groups and volunteers, who deserve enormous credit for helping to get this long-awaited project moving.
Behind the scenes, RoW Cheshire East Councillors have worked to progress planning and minerals permissions with Cheshire East, unblocking the process and enabling works to start.
A wooden walkway to the Lindow Man discovery site with interpretation boards is scheduled for installation this Spring/Summer. RoW Town Councillors have secured a backstop agreement with the Town Council to allow this important aspect of the restoration to go ahead.
Current landscape restoration works across the bog are being carried out by Terraqueous Ltd on behalf of Croghan Peat, with temporary restrictions in place for safety.
Some areas may be closed, dogs must be kept on leads, and work zones should be given a wide berth.
Although vegetation clearance will be visible, this forms part of the agreed restoration plan and no peat is being extracted.
Further works are planned from May onwards.
